3net, the US 3D broadcaster operated by Sony, Discovery and IMAX, will air a raft of 3D sports and entertainment programming after striking a deal with Red Bull.
The joint venture channel has struck a deal with the energy drink manufacturer’s US production division Red Bull Media House North America that will see a package of 3D programming aired in 3D for the first time.
It will launch freeride mountain biking series Red Bull Rampage on August 21 and will follow this with short-form surfing content around the US Open of Surfing.
This comes as the need for 3D content continues following a rash of channel launches last year.
Separately, Disney has struck a deal with UK pay broadcaster Sky that will see The Lion King 3D air in the United Kingdom.
US broadcaster History is also expected to air 3D footage around its forthcoming two-hour special celebrating the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and the company’s international arm A+E Networks will be selling this at MIPCOM.
