Nordic broadcasters launch massacre documentary

Nordic World, the programme sales group that represents the region’s most influential broadcasters, is launching Terror Island to international buyers. The one-off documentary chronicles the events of July 22, when Anders Breivik massacred 69 people on the Norwegian holiday island of Utoya.

The film is the first out of Norway tackling the subject and is made by Norway’s TV2 and The Documentary Company. Nordic World says the doc has “exclusive footage of both the best and the worst of human nature, with horrific scenes of Breivik’s murderous rampage balanced with scenes of unimaginable bravery and compassion.”

Terror Island is a moving and emotional documentary about an horrific act that will live on in the hearts and minds of Norwegians and all right-thinking people around the world,” said Nordic World CEO Espen Huseby. “It is not only the first film about the atrocity to come out of Norway, but it was also made by people who were directly involved in the incident – TV2’s offices were only two blocks away from the Oslo bomb and had to be evacuated on that terrible day.”

Nordic World sells content from TV2 and NRK (Norway), TV4 (Sweden), MTV3 and YLE (Finland), TV2 (Denmark) and K2 (Estonia).

Norwegian state broadcaster NRK has already announced plans to cover the National Memorial Ceremony, commemorating the victims of the attacks, which takes place this Sunday.
