Fox eyes Glee spin-off

US network Fox is eyeing the launch of a spin-off of hit musical drama Glee.

Kevin Reilly, president of entertainment at Fox, said at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, that it would look at developing a spin-off later this year.

“The spin-off was in the wind, it still is in the wind. We haven’t sort of said we’re not doing it,” he said. “The short answer is we have collectively decided let’s revisit that in the back half of this year when it should be visited.”

Glee, which was created by Ryan Murphy and is produced by 20th Century Fox Television, is set to launch its third season in September. The show, which  follows a high school glee club, is a ratings success in the United States and has been a huge hit internationally, where it has been sold to international broadcasters including Canada’s Global, South Africa’s M-Net and New Zealand’s TV3. Channel 4 originally acquired the show in the UK but it was subsequently poached by pay broadcaster Sky for its third season.
