Sky 1 acquires Fox’s Terra Nova

UK pay broadcaster Sky has acquired Fox’s big budget dinosaur drama Terra Nova.

The deal is one of the first international sales of the show, which is produced by Steven Spielberg.

The show will launch on Sky 1 HD in the UK one month after its September 26 bow on Fox in the United States after the News Corp-backed broadcaster inked a deal with 20th Century Fox Television Distribution.

The show, which reportedly has a budget of US$4 million per episode, is produced by Steven Spielberg, through Dreamworks Television, Peter Chernin’s Chernin Entertainment, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Television. It was created by Kelly Marcel and Craig Silverstein, who has worked on Nikita and Bones, from an original Marcel story.

It follows the Shannon Family, lead by Life on Mars’ Jason O’Mara, who live in 2149, before being flung back to the prehistoric age, when the Earth was ruled by dinosaurs.

The deal was struck between Sarah Wright, controller of acquisitions, entertainment, Sky and Steve Cornish, SVP and MD, 20th Century Fox Television Distribution.
