Discop News: HBO picks up Books Into Films

HBO Central Europe, the CEE arm of the US premium cable network, has acquired Breakthrough Entertainment’s factual series Books Into Films ahead of Discop.

The broadcaster will air the 39x30mins series, which is produced by Pyramid Productions, across its suite of channels in the region. The show looks at why certain literary works including Forrest Gump and The Lord of the Rings were selected and adapted into blockbuster films.

Breakthrough Entertainment, the Canadian producer and distributor, has closed a number of additional deals in the region ahead of the Budapest programming market. It has sold 375 hours of programming across the region.

Slovak Television has picked up Street of the World; Fiesta TV (Bulgaria) has bought travel and cooking series David Rocco’s Dolce Vita and Czech TV selected Crackedberry’d: The Truth About Information Overload and Plastic Makes Perfect.

“Eastern Europe is a vital territory for Breakthrough Entertainment and we’re delighted to be working with some of this region’s most prominent companies,” said Breakthrough Entertainment’s VP, distribution Nat Abraham.
