Discovery hires Julian Bellamy as creative director and head of production

Discovery Networks International has recruited Julian Bellamy as its first ever creative director and head of production and development.

Bellamy is well-known in the UK having been head of free-to-air broadcaster Channel 4 and controller of BBC digital channel, BBC Three. He left Channel 4 last year.

At Discovery he will report to Luis Silberwasser, who as executive VP and chief content officer for DNI, has been leading its original production charge. Bellamy will oversee the production and development of all local and international commissions across Discovery’s 100 international channels. He starts in the new role on June 1.

Silberwasser said: “He will be instrumental in delivering ratings success for Discovery Channel, TLC and the dozens of brands that comprise DNI’s global portfolio reaching more than one billion households outside the US.”

Bellamy said: “This role is a huge opportunity for me to help Discovery Networks make an even bigger impact on the global marketplace and bring some big, new creative ideas to international audiences.”
