Oprah Winfrey to take her Encore on OWN

OWN is launching a 60-episode series looking back at The Oprah Winfrey Show, which is coming to an end on the CBS network.

The show, Oprah’s Encore, will feature the talkshow host looking back at the highlights and standout moments from her network show, which has run for 25 years.

Oprah revealed the project at Discovery’s New York Upfront event.

OWN is a JV with Discovery and has struggled to achieve the ratings goals set ahead of its launch in January.

The star said that she will be able to dedicate more energy to her cable net after her contractual obligations relating to her network show come to an end.

“On May 25 the last Oprah Winfrey show will be on TV,” the star said. “In September a new era begins and when my show ends I get to devote all of my attention – and that of the team I have been working with for 25 years – to OWN.”

Oprah’s Encore will feature ‘never heard before Oprah secrets’ and will, Oprah said, give her perspective on the seminal moments of her talkshow.

Stars including Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman featured in the short trailer shown at the Discovery Upfront.
