BBC Worldwide launching first branded HD block on Sky Brazil

Latin American pay TV platform SKY Brazil is launching a BBC HD programming block after striking a deal with BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the British public broadcaster, marking the first time a BBC-branded high definition block is available in the region.

Subscribers will be able to see shows including Michael Palin’s New Europe, Space Age: The True Story of NASA and Edward VIII: The Nazi King.

“This type of content adds value to our HD offering and helps to consolidate SKY’s leading position in an increasingly competitive market,” Marcia Cross, director of programming, SKY Brazil.

With this deal, BBC Worldwide now broadcasts in sixteen countries in Latin America: Mexico, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, Venezuela and Brazil.
