NBC to revive Prime Suspect

US network NBC is to revive its remake of British cop drama Prime Suspect after greenlighting a pilot.

The move is the latest twist for the ITV Studios-produced series, which was in development with the US broadcaster last year, but wasn’t picked up, reportedly because of issues casting the lead character.

The show is set to be written by Desperate Housewives’ writer Alexandra Cunningham and exec produced by Film 44’s Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey in association with Universal Media Studios. This comes one year after Film 44, the company behind US football drama Friday Night Lights, struck an overall deal with the NBC Universal-owned studio.

This is also ITV Studios’ latest project in development in the States; the production arm of the British commercial broadcaster is also in development with a remake of Aiden Gillen-fronted drama Identity with ABC.
