NATPE News: MTV’s Tr3s eyes scripted series

MTV-owned US Spanish language broadcaster Tr3s is looking to ramp up its slate of original content and is looking for scripted series.

The network, which focuses on the 12-34 bilingual demographic, has found ratings success with local versions of MTV formats including Quiero Mis Quinces (My Sweet 15) and wedding series Quiero Mi Boda (I Want My Wedding), but is now looking to work with independent producers on daily and weekly scripted dramas.

Charlie Singer, senior VP, content and creative, Tr3s, told TBIvision: “There are several interesting things; scripted is a space that we want to get in to. There’s a lot of energy in that space and we’ll be attacking that this year, particularly daily and weekly scripted shows.”

The broadcaster, which was launched in 2006, is also looking for interesting series to acquire at NATPE and Singer is hoping to boost its documentary output.

“I think there’s a real energy in the Latin American production world, particularly in countries like Argentina, and Latin American creatives are the hot creatives right now,” he added.
