DVD firm Acorn acquires Greenlit assets

DVD distributor Acorn Media has acquired the TV rights to a raft of UK drama  series including Vexed and Foyle’s War from bankrupt independent producer Greenlit Rights.

This is the company’s first move into television acquisition.

Acorn Media has acquired all rights to series including ITV drama Foyle’s War, which it already distributed on DVD, three part series Vexed, Amanda Redman-fronted Honest, Martin Clunes’ The Man Who Lost His Head, Stephen Moyer-fronted Menace and psychological thriller The Swap.

It acquired the rights from adminstrator BDO after the company, run by Jill Green, went into administration earlier this year.

Peter Smart, acquisitions and marketing manager at Acorn Media, told TBIvision that this wouldn’t signal a wholesale move into TV distribution and Foyle’s War would still be distributed internationally by Icon Film Distribution.

However, he added that it is considering a move into TV production and distribution in the future. “We have had a couple of initial conversations with Jill [Green],” he said. “We are [also] going to look to do more acquisitions in the future,” he added.
