Vuguru in talks with US cabler over strategic deal

Vuguru, the US digital producer owned by former Disney boss Michael Eisner, is in talks with a major US cable company to strike a strategic partnership.

This comes one year after Canadian media company and broadcaster Rogers Media acquired a stake in the company.

Vuguru president Larry Tanz told TBIvision that it hopes to produce more than ten shows in the next two years across genres including teen comedy and dramas for older skewing female audiences.

“We’re currently having strategic discussions with partners and that includes a big cable company. There’s conversations. An overall deal could make sense but it could also make to produce certain projects around certain demographics,” he said.

The producer is currently readying its latest production, Pretty Tough, a young adult drama, which will launch in late November. The series, which has a budget of under US$1 million, is distributed internationally by Fireworks International as part of an output deal the two companies recently signed.

Tanz added that it was looking for more shows outside of the United States. “We’re looking very hard for projects outside of the States. We’ve got a couple of things with Canadian producers and are eager for more,” he adds.
