DCD launches factual division

International producer and distributor DCD Media has launched a factual division that will be run by Steadfast boss Charles Thompson.

The company is also looking to acquire more factual producers to roll into the new unit that will combine DCD-owned producers Prospect Pictures, Prospect Wales, West Park Pictures and West Park West.

DCD Factual has scored its first commissions; the BBC has commissioned it to produce a one hour special Keith Douglas – A Poet At War and a 2x1hour Passion of Port Talbot for BBC Wales, while Channel 4-owned digital network More4 has commissioned it to produce Punchdrunk’s Duchess of Malfi.

Thompson, who has produced series including Sky’s UK Border Force and Five’s Ship Rescue, has been hired as creative director of the division and will continue to chair Steadfast Television, which is owned by Content Ventures, on a non-executive basis.

DCD Media chief executive David Green said: “As the factual genre increasingly dominates television on both sides of the Atlantic, it is important that we give the international production community clear sight of three distinctive production divisions at DCD: September Films UK & USA, Done and Dusted and our newly formed DCD Factual division.”
