Eyeworks acquires Telemundo’s Elisa

International producer and distributor Eyeworks has acquired a raft of European rights to Telemundo Internacional’s telenovela Where Is Elisa?

The international arm of the Dutch company is hoping to produce local versions in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Sweden.

The series, which originally aired on Chile’s TVN, is distributed by Telemundo Internacional, the global sales arm of the NBC Universal-owned US Hispanic broadcaster. It tells the story of the disappearance of Elisa Dominguez.

Eyeworks chief executive Reinout Oerlemans said: “I was instantly convinced that the series would be a huge success in other countries. I see this format as a daily page-turner, because it’s based on such a universal theme that it resonates with everyone and everywhere, just like people were struck by the Madeleine McCann case.”
