TNT greenlights Dallas remake

US cable network TNT is remaking classic soap Dallas, having greenlit a pilot produced by Cane creator Cynthia Cidre.

The network, which is owned by Turner Broadcasting, has struck a deal for the remake with Warner Horizon Television, the cable production arm of the Hollywood studio.

Dallas originally aired on CBS in 1978 and started life as a five part mini-series, before airing for thirteen seasons. The show was created by David Jacobs, who also created Knots Landing, and was produced by Lorimar Television.

The new version of the show will focus on the offspring of brothers JR and Bobby Ewing, who clash over the future of the family’s dynasty.

This remake forms part of TNT’s fall schedule, which also includes two further series, medical crime drama Perception and a police comedy produced by Wall Street scribe Allan Loeb.   

Perception, which is exec produced by Legend of the Seeker’s Kenneth Biller, follows an eccentric neuroscientist who helps the FBI solve crimes. It is produced by ABC Studios.

The Untitled Allan Loeb Project is based on the novel The Rabbit Factory by Marshall Karp. It is based on a recently widowed police detective, who tries to navigate the world of dating while maintaining his job. It is produced by Lionsgate Television.
