Australia’s Seven to launch local Beat The Star

Australian commercial broadcaster Seven Network is to produce a local version of German entertainment format Beat The Star after striking a deal with distributor SevenOne International.

The format, which will launch next month, pits regular families against a celebrity to face a series of physical and mental challenges. The show, which was originally titled Schlag den Raab (Beat The Host) was developed by Raab TV and Brainpool Television and aired on German commercial free-to-air network ProSieben.

Seven has brought in celebrities including My Kitchen Rules host Manu Feildel, Home & Away star Ada Nicodemou and boxer Danny Green to compete on the show.

The format has travelled successfully around the world with distributor SevenOne International, the worldwide sales arm of the German broadcaster, inking deals with broadcasters including UK free-to-air network ITV, French commercial broadcaster TF1 and Kanal 5 in Sweden.
