Discovery and BSkyB order 3D shows from UK indie Renegade

UK indie producer Renegade Pictures will make two 3D dramas for BSkyB in the UK and a 3D series for Discovery’s upcoming 3D channel in the US. The triple order follows Renegade’s success last year with 2x60mins The Queen in 3D, which aired on Channel 4 in the UK.

Programme details are not yet available, but Renegade co-founder and  editorial director Alan Hayling told TBIvision that the Sky projects are short dramas that were already with the broadcaster before it  decided to super-size them as 3D shows for its 3D channel.

The Discovery project meanwhile was pitched to the factual channel operator as a 3D project from the start.

Hayling said the Discovery project would be delivered in time for the launch of its 3D channel, a joint venture with IMAX and Sony, in the US next January. The indie has worked with Discovery previously, making, among others, last year’s Who Framed Jesus and Extreme Bodies for the broadcaster.

Renegade has a first-look deal with distributor DRG and it is understood to be keen to handle sales of the Sky projects. It has recently set up 3DRG, a new unit dedicated to selling 3D content. The Discovery series meanwhile is fully funded by the broadcaster, which is expected to take international sales rights.
