Globo renews Fox deal, inks copro pact with SIC

Brazilian broadcaster Globo has renewed a multiyear programming deal with Fox and, separately, inked a telenovela coproduction pact with Portuguese free-to-air broadcaster SIC.

The Fox deal, which gives Globo a range of the studios TV series and movies, will run for another three years.

Movie titles include X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The agreement extension was put together by Elie Wahba, senior VP – Latin America, Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution and Roberto Buzzoni, director of programming at Globo.

Meanwhile, the copro deal with SIC will run for two years and is expected to yield two telenovelas. The first of these, which is as yet untitled, is in pre-production.

Writer Aguinaldo Silva (Senhora do Destino) is on board and Guilherme Bokel, Globo’s head of international production, will exec produce.

“This agreement represents a new and important development at SIC fiction. We’re counting on the extraordinary experience and knowledge of TV Globo,” said Luis Marques, SIC CEO.
