Starz weighs international channel launches

US cable network Starz Media is eyeing the launch of international channels. President and chief executive Chris Albrecht told TBIvision that it is considering launching its network across the globe.

“Perhaps we’ll build platforms overseas. It’s a lofty goal but if you talk about monetising your content overseas, you want to monetise the brand overseas,” he said.

This comes as the network, which is owned by John Malone’s Liberty Media, announced further plans to ramp up the launch of original series with two new projects in development with Ben Silverman’s Electus.

The broadcaster will launch William the Conqueror and Peacekeeper with Silverman’s production company. Albrecht told delegates at the MIP TV market in Cannes that it would look to launch 4 to 6 new series per year alongside four miniseries.
