TF1 to launch French version of Doc Martin

French commercial broadcaster TF1 is set to produce a local version of British drama Doc Martin after striking a deal with distributor Digital Rights Group (DRG).

This is the latest international version of the format, which stars Martin Clunes in the original ITV series, following deals in Spain, where Antena3 made a version, and Germany, where ZDF has produced two seasons.

French producer Ego Productions, which is owned by the Carrere Group, is producing the French version, which will begin with six episodes. It will star Les Bronzes’ Thierry Lhermitte as the tactless doctor who causes chaos in a small community and will air later this year.

The British version, which is produced by Buffalo Pictures and Homerun Productions, was recently commissioned for a fifth season.
