Zodiak Entertainment has invested in The Corner Shop, a start-up comedy producer run by Mobashir Dar, the former head of new comedy at the BBC. DeAgostini-backed production and distribution group Zodiak said the new company will focus on creating comedy shows and formats for the UK and international markets.
The company will be based in Bristol, England, alongside Diverse, another of the indie producers from the Zodiak stable. It has recruited Will Knott, who joins from UK indie Vera, and becomes executive producer.
“Comedy and Entertainment values are seeping into all types of programmes both on TV in the UK and internationally,” Dar said. “Some of the UK’s best comedies continue to work in all parts of the world and we’re setting out to create our own global hits.”
Dar worked on various comedy shows including Comic Relief, Little Britain and Have I Got News for You.
