Seven eyes productions for digital net 7TWO

Australian broadcaster Seven Network is eyeing the launch of original productions for its recently launched digital channel 7TWO.

The channel launched at the start of November and currently airs a mix of US entertainment series and factual entertainment programming. It bowed with series including 24, Lost, The Jay Leno Show and Jesse James’ Monster Garage.

Tim Worner, director of programming and production at Seven, told TBIvision: “We’d like to get the business to a point where the production of original content for it was viable. I sincerely hope that happens sooner rather than later.”

The network currently produces the most local content among the Australian free-to-air channels including series My Kitchen Rules, All Saints and City Homicide. It is hoping to expand this to the digital terrestrial channel, although Worner admits that it won’t happen in the next six months.

“For us to have the chance to seed something on 7TWO and grow it to the point where it can cut it on the main channel would be ideal,” he adds.
