Canada’s Rogers buys into Eisner’s Vuguru

Canadian media company Rogersis buying into Michael Eisner’s digital production arm Vuguru. Last month Eisner told TBIvision about his ambition for Vuguru, producer of Prom Queen and Glenn martin DDS, to ramp up production and an injection of funds from Rogers will help it achieve this.

“We’re currently doing six or seven different story-driven shows a year and we want to get to ten, twenty or thirty a year,” Eisner said. “Prom Queen started hot and then a lot of companies started copying it and they weren’t mindful of the costs. A lot of companies folded. That’s typical with all things new. I’m still making enough money to pay the overheads. I’ll make 30 more shows while the others scale back.”

With Rogers on board as a significant shareholder, Eisner is expected to remove Vuguru from Tornante, his investment vehicle and it will become a standalone entity. Rogers will take Canadian rights to Vuguru shows under the terms of the deal. It has already taken local rights to both Prom Queen and Glenn Martin DDS. Eisner will serve as chairman under the new ownership and management structure.
