Big Brother gets new series order in Germany

RTL2 has ordered another season of Endemol’s reality show Big Brother, taking it into its tenth season in Germany. The free-to-air broadcaster will air the show daily, in primetime.

The ninth series of the show finished in December on RTL2 and performed well for the free-to-air broadcaster with a peak audience over 40% above its average share.

Endemol announced last week that US network CBS had commissioned a twelfth series of Big Brother and will be cheered by the German deal after the UK broadcaster of the show, Channel 4, announced it would not be ordering any more after its current deal expires next year.

Endemol is also keen to flag the current success of the show in Italy and Spain.

In Italy Grande Fratello is enjoying its best ratings for three years, generating a 29.2% share for Canale 5. In Spain Gran Hermano launched this month with a 25.3% share, well above the average for its local broadcaster Telecinco.
