Raft of broadcasters pick up Disney’s Flash Forward

A host of international broadcasters have acquired Disney ABC ESPN Television-distributed drama series Flash Forward. The show was the most buzzworthy at this year’s LA Screenings and has been picked up by free-to-air and pay TV broadcasters across Europe.

The ensemble serialised drama follows events after an unexplained event in which everyone in the world blacks out and sees a glimpse of their future in six months time.

The show is produced by David Goyer who has a long list of TV and movie credits (The Dark Knight, Threshold).

Goyer told TBIvision that the series will follow a pre-determined story arc and, if successful, could stretch beyond the three season plan that has been reported. “Actually, there’s more of a five-season plan, I fleshed out the first to the fifth season for the network,” he said.” I’ve been asked – What’s the minimum length to do it in? – and said three, but it could accordion out to six or seven seasons.”

The full list of European broadcasters that have bought the show so far is:AXN (Spain and Portugal), Cuatro (Spain), Digiturk (Turkey), Fox International Channels (Greece, Cyprus), Nelonen (Finland), RTE (Ireland), RUV (Iceland), SBS (Netherlands) and TV2 (Norway). Five in the UK has already acquired the show. The deals were sealed by Disney ABC ESPN Television EMEA.

The series will go out on ABC in the US in a Thursday night 8pm slot, starting September 24.
