News Corp restructures Star TV Asia

News Corp has restructured its Asian TV business Star TV with CEO Paul Aiello leaving the company.

It is restructuring the company into three divisions; Star India, Star Greater China and Fox International Channels. Star India will look after the company’s 19 channels in the country across eight languages and will also manage its joint ventures including pay TV services and production and distribution businesses.

Star Greater China will manage the company’s five Chinese language channels, Fortune Star Movie library and Fox Star Studios Chinese film production arm.

Fox International Channels, meanwhile, will look after all of its international networks including all of the Fox and Nat Geo branded channels as well as Star World, Star Movies and Channel [V]. Fox International Channels 37 channels from 17 brands will be managed by Ward Platt.

The move marks the exit of Aiello, who has been chief executive since March 2007 following the departure of Michelle Guthrie. Former investment banker Aiello joined the company in 2006 as president, joining from Morgan Stanley.
