Sky Arts acquires HBO’s In Treatment

British pay TV broadcaster Sky Arts has acquired HBO’s hit psychological drama In Treatment after the BSkyB-owned thematic channel inked a deal with HBO’s international sales arm.

The acquisition is a big move for Sky Arts, which primarily airs music concerts and niche culture series.

The channel will strip the series, which stars Gabriel Byrne and Blair Underwood, from Mondays to Thursdays in October and will air a catch up repeat of the 30 minute show on Sundays.

In Treatment was originally created as Be Tipul by Sheleg Productions for Israeli cable channel Hot3. The show is also currently being remade in Central and Eastern Europe by HBO Central Europe, which acquired the local format rights from Dori Media.

US cable network HBO is currently weighing up plans to launch a third series; the original series only lasted two seasons, so it would have to produce new scripts.
