Root’s Nutopia working on BBC projects

Nutopia, Jane Root’s start up indie production company, is developing projects for the BBC and ITV in the UK and Discovery in the US.

Nutopia announced its arrival on the production scene earlier this week when the History channel in the US announced it had ordered a 12x1hr factual series America: The Story of the US.

Root, a former controller of BBC Two in the UK and most recently president of Discovery Channel US, has set up Nutopia to produced factual series and drama-docs. It has offices in the US, in Washington, and UK, in London.

It did not release details of other projects in the pipeline, but confirmed it is developing shows for the main British terrestrial channels and Discovery.

Root is company CEO. Laura Franses, ex managing director of Raw TV, is managing director. Board members include industry veterans Michael Jackson and Peter Bazalgette.
