Nick orders Kung Fu Panda series

Nickelodeon has ordered 26 episodes of Kung Fu Panda: The Series. It is the company’s second coproduction with Dreamworks Animation following the success of The Penguins of Madagascar.

The series is based on the Jack Black-voiced movie, which stars Po the Panda, who is learning martial arts with the help of his five dragon warriors.

The show will be executive produced by King of the Hill exec producer Cheryl Holliday.

This follows the success of The Penguins of Madagascar, a spin off from CGI movie Madagascar, which debuted in March and was Nickelodeon’s most watched series premiere in the channel’s history recording 6.1 million viewers.

Dreamworks Animation is moving back into TV in a big way after the failure of series including Father of the Pride in 2004. It is also launching a spin off to its Monsters vs Aliens franchise as well as a one off special for NBC Monsters vs Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space.
