Fox picks up Target, Tuscon

Fox has picked up a number of new dramas and comedies for next season, following this year’s trend of US networks picking up series ahead of the traditional Upfronts event.

The network has ordered dark drama Target, which is based on a DC Comics property, and single camera comedy Sons of Tuscon.

It has also renewed Lie to Me, the psychological drama that stars Tim Roth, for a second season, which will be executive produced by The Shield exec producer Shawn Ryan.

Target, which is produced by Warner Bros, is a drama based on DC Comics’ troubled bodyguard and private investigator who takes on dangerous assignments. McG will exec produce.

Meanwhile, Sons of Tuscon, which is produced by 20^th Century Fox Television and J2TV, is a single camera comedy about a charming but misguided hustler hired by three brothers – played by David Cleveland, Frank Dolce and Troy Gentile – to act as their father while their real father is in jail.

These pick ups come one week ahead of the network’s Upfront event, the traditional launch pad for US broadcasters new series in front of advertisers. ABC also announced the launch of a number of new series – including sci fi drama Flash Forward – ahead of its event, while NBC also announced the majority of its slate.
