John de Mol’s Talpa set to expand internationally

Talpa Media, the Dutch producer and distributor set up by Endemol founder John de Mol, is to expand internationally with the launch of six production subsidiaries in countries including the UK and the US.

The company will also launch or acquire production bases in Germany, France, Italy and Spain and is currently hiring execs to run these operations. It will also look to expand in China, Russia and India later this year.

Talpa Media is currently selling formats including Divided, which has been picked up by British commercial broadcaster ITV, RTL5 series Dating in the Dark, Pretty Smart and Celebrities on Welfare.

John de Mol says: “The great flow of strong formats that Talpa Content has developed here in-house over a short period of time was the deciding factor. Our strength is our own creativity. That’s what I’ve always believed and I am convinced of it now more than ever. We will continue to invest in the development of formats. It’s all about content and Talpa has a lot of exceptional content in stock. With this basis, I have complete faith in our international expansion. It’s not my ambition to become the biggest, but I do want to be the best.”
