BBC channels stock up on Worldwide-distributed series

BBC Worldwide’s channels division has acquired a raft of content distributed by its program sales arm. BBC Worldwide Channels claims to be one of the largest buyers of British programming and acquires from the BBC and other distributors.

Following last week’s Showcase event in Brighton, England, where Worldwide’s program sales team courted buyers from all over the world, BBC Worldwide Channels has acquired Left Bank Pictures/Yellow Bird detective series Wallander.

The channels division also picked up single dramas One Step Behind, Firewall and Sidetracked for BBC Entertainment in Latin America and India. BBC Entertainment in South Africa also took Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood: Children of the Earth and the series was also taken by BBC Wordwide’s UKTV in Australia and the US.

On the factual side, BBC HD in Australia acquired Bruce Parry’s Amazon, Paul Merton in India and upcoming landmark natural history series South Pacific.
