MTV’s Atom.com launches digital slate

MTV Networks-owned online video site Atom has commissioned a raft of new web series from stars including actor Andy Dick, comedian Nick Thune and The Mighty Boosh’s Matt Berry.

The site, which is run by US cable network Comedy Central, was originally set up by record label boss Mika Salmi in 1998 and was acquired by MTV in 2006, where Salmi became president of global digital media.

The latest slate of web series follows its rebrand last year as a portal for original online comedy programming. New shows include Nick’s Big Show, a mockumentary that follows comedian Nick Thune as he quits stand up comedy, House Arrest with Andy Dick that sees the actor interview his celebrity friends from his own home during his house arrest for drug charges, Hot Sluts! Rated R, a soap set in the seedy world of strippers, animated series Special Features from The Meth Minute’s Dan Meth.

Worldwide Biggies, the digital production company behind Mocap LLC, is producing 15 episodes of El Vacio from sketch comics Dominic Dierkes, Jonathan Gabrus and Chris DeLuca, while The Mighty Boosh’s Matt Berry has hooked up with Sarah Silverman associate Steve Agee to produce four episodes of music comedy The Berry-Agee Experiment.

The series were commissioned by Megan O’Neill, VP, original content development, Atom.com.
