Endemol sets up shop in Brazil

Endemol has launched a wholly-owned Brazilian offshoot, Endemol Brasil, which will produce a range of entertainment shows for the Brazilian market.

The producer and distributor already has a Brazilian joint venture with regional powerhouse Globo and the new venture will operate alongside its existing operation. The new unit will produce for the whole Brazilian market while the Endemol Globo JV is focused on making content for Globo alone, Endemol said.

It will be headed by Daniela Busoli who was running Action Media, Endemol’s Brazilian participation TV company. Its activities will be folded into Endemol Brasil. Paula Cavalcanti, founder of indie producer REX, will be head of production.

Endemol has already shopped a number of its formats into Brazil. The local version of Big Brother is in its ninth season. Other Endemol formats on air include local versions of Operacion Triunfo and Circus of the Celebrities.
