ABC Family picks up three series, drops Kyle XY

US cable network ABC Family has picked up three new series including Ruby and The Rockits, but cancelled sci-fi drama Kyle XY.

The Disney-owned network has given 10-episode orders to Ruby and the Rockits, 10 Things I Hate About You and drama Perfect 10.

The launch of these female skewing series follows the success of The Secret Life of the American Teenager and college hit Greek, which has also been picked up for a third season.

Ruby and the Rockits is produced by ABC Studios and follows a former child pop star, played by Patrick Cassidy, and is executive produced by Invasion creator Shaun Cassidy. 10 Things I Hate About You is a TV remake of the high school hit movie. The pilot was directed by Blossom director Gil Junger, who also directed the feature film, and is exec produced by Greek producer Carter Covington. Meanwhile, Perfect 10 is a drama that follows a group of wannabe Olympians and is executive produced by The Auteur Theory’s Holly Sorensen.

Unfortunately, sci fi mystery series Kyle XY, which was also an international hit airing on British public broadcaster the BBC, was cancelled after its third season.
