The CW cancels MRC block

US network The CW has cancelled its Media Rights Capital-produced Sunday night programming block.

The arrangement had seen production company Media Rights Capital launch three original series – drama series Valentine and Easy Money and reality series In Harm’s Way – and one acquired Canadian documentary series 4Real. However, none of the shows impressed in the ratings and the CW pulled the plug on the time-buy deal.

ShineReveille International distributes MRC-produced shows internationally and it’s unclear whether these shows will feature in the raft of output deals that it has signed over the last few months.

The CW COO, John Mattaa, wrote to local affiliate stations: "As you know, to focus our efforts on the earlier part of the week, we entered into a time-buy agreement with Media Rights Capital to program Sunday night. While this move has clearly paid dividends for the overall schedule, the results on Sunday night have been below expectations. The MRC shows are simply not working."

The CW will replace the block with reruns of series including comedy Everybody Hates Chris and sci fi series Jericho.
