Chorion and SMG join forces for kids TV

UK and US-based producer and distributor Chorion has inked a co-development deal with SMG, China’s largest media group. The two parties will work together on the development of kids properties for 6-to11-year-olds.

Co-development directors will be appointed in New York and Shanghai and there will be ‘creative summits’ in both locations in June.

"The deal differs markedly from those struck by other Western media groups whose efforts are generally focused on gaining a foothold in the Chinese market," Chorion said in a statement. "The partnership between Chorion and SMG brings together the best creative talent in both China and the West to jointly develop properties with worldwide appeal."

Chorion and SMG thrashed out the deal in Shanghai and at the recent MIPCOM programming market. The company’s roster of kids shows includes classic brands Noddy, Paddington Bear and The Mr. Men Show and newer properties including Olivia.
