Spanish free-to-air broadcaster Antena3 is to make a local version of hit ITV drama Doc Martin after inking a deal with distributor Portman Film and Television.
The broadcaster will reversion scripts of the show, which stars comedian Martin Clunes as a successful surgeon who develops a phobia of blood and moves to the English countryside.
Anke Stoll, head of acquisitions and coproductions at Portman Film & Television, told TBIvision: "Doc Martin has just been optioned in Spain for Antena 3. In this case, the channel has acquired the rights and appointed a production company."
This follows a successful remake of the show in Germany, where public broadcaster ZDF has produced two seasons of the show in association with UFA-owned producer Phoenix Films and is currently discussing options for a third and fourth season.
The show has been commissioned for a fourth season by UK commercial broadcaster ITV and production starts in September.
