Amazia is off

Reed Midem has cancelled Amazia. The inaugural event was slated to take place in Hong Kong between November 17 – 20 this year and organisers blamed a lack of enthusiasm from TV companies and the number of competing events for calling off the event.

Reed Midem chief executive Paul Zilk said reaction to the concept had been positive, but added: “However, many television companies, who are vital to the success of AMAZIA, have expressed reluctance about attending AMAZIA and other television events taking place in Asia during the same time of year. It is likely that the presence of television content buyers and sellers would be diluted at AMAZIA.”

The calendar of Asian-based TV events is getting more crowded. As well as the annual event organised by pay TV organisation CASBAA there is Asia Television Forum in Singapore, which is organised by Reed Exhibitions and an increasing number of events in mainland China.
