Canal+ orders Little Mosque TV movie

Canal+ has ordered a TV movie based upon Canadian comedy series Little Mosque on the Prairie. The French broadcaster has been airing the finished Canadian version of the show and has greenlit a 1x90mins TV movie.

The original Canadian version of the show follows the lives of a group of small town mosque-goers. The French version will be made by Zen Productions in association with the original series producer, the Canadian indie WestWind Pictures.

The TV movie could, producers hope, effectively operate as a back-door pilot ahead of a full French-language series. The TV movie is in development at the moment.

With a French deal done, there is also the prospect of a German-language TV movie along the same lines, with RTL understood to be interested.

Domestically, Canadian public broadcaster the CBC has ordered a third season of Little Mosque and Westwind is about to go into production on the 20-episode run. There will be 48 episodes of the family comedy series when the latest episodes are finished.

WestWind, is also distributing the show and as well as closing a deal for the finished programme with Canal+ in France has shopped it to YLE in Finland, Dubai-based Pyramedia and others.
