ACTRA slams CBC drama cancellations
The CBC’s decision to cancel Intelligence, Hockey Wives and jPOD has dealt a devastating blow to Canadian drama, according to the country’s talent union ACTRA.
The Canadian public broadcaster has shelved the shows for the fall season – and incurred the wrath of ACTRA, which said the decision “was a clear example of inexperienced CBC executives who don’t understand their mandate to support Canadian programming, especially drama.”
Stephen Waddell, ACTRA National Executive Director said: “CBC’s mandate is different from that of private broadcasters, that inundate us with U.S. production, yet the CBC’s idea of supporting Canadian production is to kill it before it’s given a chance to grow. “
