NBD takes on September Films and makes first sales

September International has been merged into NBDtv, which has already made its first sales from September Films’ slate of programming.

Factual entertainment specialist September Films was one of three indie producers acquired by DCD Media in July. NBDtv is the distribution arm for the DCD Group and as such has taken over sales of September Films programming.

NBDtv founder and CEO Nicky Davies Williams told TBIvision: "DCD has a central distribution unit, which is NBD, so this was a natural progression."

With the increased range of activity at NBDtv there might also be a rebrand of the distribution arm. Davies Williams says: "We’re looking at that, there’s been such dynamic growth and we’re assimilating everything now."

NBDtv has pre-sold September Films’ one-off documentary Boys Joined at the Head to TV3 in Ireland, Channel 4 in Finland and Nine in Australia. It has also shopped fact-ent series Bridezillas to Ireland’s TV3, Finland’s Channel 4, France’s AB Droite and Thailand’s True Visions. Season five of the show has also recently been picked up by WE: Women’s Entertainment Network and The History Channel in the US.

DCD’s expansion has swelled NBD’s catalogue by about 900 hours in the past year, taking the total to about 3,600 hours, and the distributor has restructured its activities.

It has ordered its sales team around three genre heads, each of whom is senior VP, sales. Former September staffer Alex Maldini heads up formats and factual; Rick Barker classical drama and arts programming; and Danielle Davies music-related programming.

DCD Media is listed on AIM in the UK. As well as September Films, it bought Prospect Pictures and West Park Pictures earlier this year. NBDtv has been part of the group since 2005.
