BSkyB launches push VOD service

BSkyB, the UK pay TV operator, has launched a push video-on-demand service.

Customers will now be able to access on-demand content on their high definition PVR settop boxes (which is stored separately from programming they have recorded themselves).

Shows from Sky-affiliated channels such as Sky One, Sky Sports, National Geographic, The History Channel, Biography, Crime&Investigation and Adventure One and from Disney and Turner will be available on the service.

This move comes as Sky looks to compete against recently rebranded cable operator Virgin Media, which has unveiled a number of on-demand content deals including with Warner Bros. for The West Wing and Nip/Tuck and Disney for Grey’s Anatomy and Alliance Atlantis for the CSI franchises.
