Having had ratings-winners like iCarly on air, and with the monster success of Hannah Montana surely front of mind, Nickelodeon has launched a new teen/tween series, Victorious.
It was created by Dan Schneider, the man behind iCarly, Zoey101 and Drake & Josh. Answering the call from Nick for a music-based live-action series, Schneider drafted in one of the cast of Zoey101, Victoria Justice. The resulting series, Victorious, follows the adventures of her character, Tori Vega, after a fluke accident sees her land at the prestigious Hollywood Arts performing arts school.
The show is filmed in LA and in each episode there are original songs performed by Victoria and the ensemble cast. Sony Music is a copro partner with Nick - the second time the two have paired up for a series following their efforts on boy-band drama Big Time Rush.
The show is launching internationally this autumn and Justice relayed a video message to the audience at the Nick UK autumn/winter launch last week."Victorious is set to be a key show for the network and is already the number one show on Nick in the US," recently-installed Nick UK boss Tina McCann said at the event.
MTV Networks International is handling international sales of the series.
Meanwhile, Dan Schneider is working on a one-off iCarly-Victorious crossover show.
