Viceland preps Boyband series, comedy move

Cable net Viceland has announced four new series, including a reality show about a boyband, its first scripted comedy, a design series with Tyler, The Creator, and an Alex Gibney doc about basketball players in Mexico.

American Boyband will follow a group of young musicians from LA on their first tour.

What Would Diplo Do? is the channel’s first scripted comedy and is a send-up of the dance music scene. James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek) plays a fictional version of international DJ Diplo in the series, which will be made by Matador.

Nuts + Bolts will feature Tyler, The Creator, cofounder of hip hop band Odd Future, finding out how things are made, before remaking them himself. Whalerock Industries is producing.

The Last Shot will be made by Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions and look at basketball players who are seeking one shot at playing professionally by heading to Mexico. Goodfight Media will make it with Jigsaw.

The quartet of new shows were unveiled as renewals were announced for several others. States of Undress, Huang’s World and Kings of the Road all get new runs on the channel, which is backed by A+E.
