Mondo sets up Tenerife production hub

Kids-logo-460_2mondo iberiaKids producer and distributor Mondo TV has set up a new production outpost in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The new studio will be a pre-production hub for Mondo, which set it up through its Mondo TV Iberoamerica division.

Four illustrators are in-situ and Mondo said more animation staff will be added soon.

European kids companies have historically farmed out service work on animation projects to Asia where there are skilled staff, experienced studios, and costs are considerably lower.

The Mondo move, however, comes as a wave of new studios are being set up in Europe. The likes of Xilam and Go-N are among the French companies to set up new facilities, after funding body the CNC said it would provide additional assistance for ‘made in France’ toons.

Mondo said it was availing itself of the tax incentives available in Tenerife in setting up its new studio. it announced the production unit at a ceremony attended by Tenerife President Carlos Alonso, Tenerife’s Minister of Tourism, Alberto Bernabe, and the President of the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC), Beatriz Barrera.

“The conditions in Tenerife are right for making great productions,” said Mondo TV CEO Matteo Corradi.

Mondo said it will now look at creating a 3D studio on the island, and is looking producing a live-action series on the Canary Islands.
