Viacom Play Plex apps hit Asia

Viacom’s mobile app suite, Viacom Play Plex, is to debut in Asia for the first time, via Singapore’s Singtel.

Viacom Play PlexViacom Play Plex allows Viacom’s distribution partners to offer branded apps that provide VOD content for current and library programming. The Singtel deal cover Nickelodeon Play, Nick Jr. Play, MTV Play and Comedy Central Play.

A wide spanning agreement also means MTV China and MTV Live will be launched on Singtel’s pay TV platform in 2016, which means six Viacom International Media Networks channels will be on the platform. OTT rights to VIMN channels are included.

“Viacom Play Plex offers us maximum flexibility in distributing our content as consumption habits continue to evolve,” said VIMN Asia’s executive VP and managing director, Mark Whitehead.

“We are delighted to have Singtel be the first in Asia to launch these apps, which are designed to complement our linear pay TV channels and to allow our existing distribution partners like Singtel to deepen and improve the entertainment experience they offer their mobile subscribers, particularly in the fast-growing mobile TV sector.”

Viacom Play Plex launched last September as a TV Everywhere-cum-on-demand service with in place with NOS in Portugal, for the Nick-branded Play app, and collaborations in place with Foxtel in Australia and OSN in the Middle East and North Africa regions.

Each app is localised, both in terms of programming and available content.

In further VIMN Asia news, Nick Jr. will launch across MNC Sky Vision’s pay TV platforms in Indonesia, Paramount Channel is going live in 16 territories across the Pacific Islands on May 1, and MTV Hits will debut in Japan via the internet platform AbemaTV.
