Televisa will run the 65-episode series in Latin America on its different channels and platforms and the Mexican media giant, and Sony will co-distribute it elsewhere in the world.

The one-hour show will be filmed in and around Mexico city and production starts in April.

“There is a growing demand in the region for stories about real people and events, a trend which started in Colombia and has now made its way to Mexico,” says Angelica Guerra, senior VP and managing director, production, Latin America and US Hispanic for SPT.

Based on the life of Alejandro Muñoz Moreno, better known as the Blue Demon, the series will follow the wrestler’s story from humble beginnings to becoming world champion.

Blue Demon will offer audiences an intimate look at one of Luche Libre’s greatest legends, exploring a complex and turbulent world that very few knew about,” said Guerra.

Sony and Televisa have coproduced several series together already, including El Dandy and Señorita Pólvora.
