Tyler replaces Linsey at BBC Entertainment

Alan Tyler has replaced Mark Linsey as acting controller of BBC Entertainment after the latter became interim director of television.

Alan TylerThe move was triggered by Danny Cohen’s departure as the BBC’s television chief, with former BBC Entertainment boss Linsey stepping up to replace him while a full-time replacement is sought.

Various internal and external names have been touted as Cohen’s replacement, with talk that the television role may be morphed into a wider content chief intensifying.

In the mean time, Linsey will handle Cohen’s old role with long-time BBC exec Tyler (pictured) overseeing entertainment. Tyler has deputised for Linsey on various occasions in the past year, and is credits include Only Connect, The Sarah Millican Television Programme and Room 101.

“Entertainment is a hugely important genre for the BBC, marrying head and heart to deliver a real treat to audiences,” he said. “It is an absolute privilege to work in this area. I’m looking forward to doing just that with the best on-screen and off-screen talent in the UK.”

Tyler, who is currently commissioning editor of BBC Entertainment, will take up the post on November 2.
