A+E has acquired African rights to one-off doc Idris Elba: Mandela, My Dad & Me.
The Content Media-distributed show has already been acquired by Discovery in the UK.
In Africa it will go out on A+E’s History later this year.
The project was initially planned as documentation of Elba’s attempt to make a music album while preparing for his role playing inspirational South African political leader, but morphed into a more personal journey after his father passed away just before filming.
It is produced by Green Door Pictures, Shine North, Woodcut Media, Bob & Co production.
Rachel Job, director of programming for History at A+E Networks, said: “Idris Elba: Mandela, My Dad & Me will resonate with our HISTORY viewers, as it brings to life a remarkable personal story combined with the musical culture and history of South Africa.”
